Walpole Co-operative
Bank
Walpole,Massachusetts
With
the bank’s new land acquisition adjacent to its current
headquarters, a new 9,000 square foot loan services building
was designed. It replaces a tired and derelict structure on
Main Street known as the Swenson Building. The new structure
will house the entire commercial loan services department currently
located in the existing main office. Included will be new closing
and conference rooms, as well as at least two additional loan
offices. The second floor will accommodate the bank’s
financial operations and computer services. An enclosed walkway
spanning the new building and the existing main office structure
will allow both to function together seamlessly. The
design approach taken compliments the existing bank, while being
sensitive to the vernacular imprint left behind by the Swenson
Building. A limestone galley entrance provides the new building
with its own distinct identity. In deference to the character
of the surrounding neighborhood structures, traditional building
materials were selected for the entire exterior. Made of a combination
of brick and limestone, this building should endure as a landmark
on Main Street for many years to come.
