Florence Savings Bank - Amherst Amherst,Massachusetts

A tale of two buildings; the bank is actually part of a larger five-unit retail facility located just south of Amherst College. The site was a former convenience store and car wash facility. Both buildings were razed and lots combined to develop a model utilizing the resulting square footage. The concept of a retail facility seemed “a natural” for the site, given its proximity to the center of town. The plan is flexible enough to allow up to five retail tenants or as few as the market dictates. Traditional building materials and forms were used in deference to the established architectural vernacular of the college nearby.
